Meditation –
Meditation is so much more than just sitting on a mat cross-legged with closed eyes and deep breaths. It is about taking the time to connect with yourself, others and your environment. It is about being mindful & present within a given moment.
Surviving a near-death experience most definitely changes you. It has made me much more conscious of the time I have on this earth and has made me reflect on how and with who I am spending it. Some of my values have shifted and changed – I have become much more aware and conscious of what is important in my life.
Most days when I look at myself in the mirror, I am unhappy with what I see. I am my biggest critic. I look at every fine line I have on my face, every pimple, freckle, scar, and birthmark from up close. I judge myself on my posture, my stomach, my arms, and my nose. I critique every little thing about my body. Sickening isn’t it!
Since my accident, I like to start my mornings off by getting into a meditative headspace. When I do so I look at my body and feel simply amazed and lucky. I feel privileged that I am healthy and that every day my body shows up for me. It quietly works on so many different things while I unconsciously go about my day.
Today my meditation was about taking the time to honour my body. I encourage you to join me and do the same! Let us be conscious & thankful for the body we have been given to live through all our physical experiences here on this earth:
I love my eyes because they allow me to see the beauty of the world. I love my mouth because it allows me to kiss lips, eat delicious foods and smile at the people passing by. I love my skin because it protects me. I love my arms because they allow me to kitesurf, pick up my nieces and nephews and support myself. I love my fingers because they allow me to paint, write, touch, feel, caress, scratch an itch and text my loved ones. I am grateful for my mouth which allows me to taste. I love my stomach because it will one day allow me to grow a human being. I love my legs because they allow me to walk, travel and discover the world around me. I love my feet because they can feel the sand beneath them, touch the ocean, keep me grounded and fit perfectly into a kiteboard!
I have always been very proud of my body – It was time I told it so.
